Late Tuesday evening, November 13th, according to a Coos County District Attorney press release, a North Bend man opened fire in his ex-wife’s residence killing one and leaving another in serious condition.
Just after 10:00pm, North Bend Police were dispatched to a 911 call reporting screaming and multiple gunshots. When Police arrived, they found one woman, the suspects 53 year old ex-wife, dead with gunshot wounds, and a young woman, the ex-wifes 28 year old daughter, who had also suffered multiple gunshot wounds but who was still alive.
Neighbors attempted to stop the suspect as he attempted to leave the area, and the man opened fire on the neighboring residences, with one neighbor returning fire. Bullet strikes could be found in surrounding buildings and houses, as well as shell cases and spent bullets on the ground.
According to the DA’s news release, police determined where the man was residing and could see he was inside the home.The Coos County Emergency Response Team was called out to assist and police negotiators were able to contact the man. After about 30 minutes of speaking with him he reportedly surrendered without incident.
The man is lodged at the Coos County Jail on one count of murder, three counts of attempted murder and one count of assault in the first degree.
