As of January 1st, 2020, the Aquatic Invasive Species Permit required for non-motorized boats 10 feet and longer was replaced by a Waterway Access Permit. The Aquatic Invasive Species Permit will remain for out-of-state motorized boats and is included in Oregon boat registration fees.
The Waterway Access Permit is transferable to other non-motorized watercraft which includes kayaks, canoes, rafts and other inflatables, and stand-up paddle boards 10 ft. and longer. Children 13 and younger do not need a permit.
These Waterway Access Permits for non-motorized craft 10 ft. and longer are $5.00 for 7 days, $19.00 for 1 year and $32.00 for a 2 year permit.
Permit fees help fund the Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention Program and a new Oregon State Marine Board Waterway Access Account for the development of non-motorized boating facilities.
The Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention Program was established by the Oregon Legislature to help keep Oregon’s lakes, rivers and streams free of destructive invasive species like zebra and quagga mussels. Boaters on Oregon waters help support this program through the purchase of Waterway Access or Aquatic Invasive Species permits.
