The National Weather Service put much of southwestern Oregon on alert after putting the region under a Fire Weather Watch Friday, July 19th.
According to the National Weather Service, an upper level low is forecast to move up the northwest coast Saturday, tapping into coastal moisture, creating conditions that are expected to increase elevated instability and the possibility of isolated thunderstorms over extremely dry fuels under triple digit afternoon high’s.
This coming after Coos Forest Protection Association recently reported that it’s protection area received approximately 160 lightning strikes during the last round of lighting earlier in the week, resulting in 4 fires.
Critical fire weather conditions, including isolated thunderstorms, lightning strikes and wind gusts reaching up to 40 mph, are possible from late Saturday morning along the coast, through Saturday morning and into Sunday morning.
