Just after 6:30pm Tuesday, August 20th, firefighters from multiple agencies were able halt a 2-alarm garage fire just as it was spreading into the nearby grass and headed up the hill.
Grants Pass Department of Public Safety Engine 7308 and Battalion 4 were first to arrive and were instrumental in stopping the spread of fire into the main house. Rural Metro Engine 7501 and Engine 572 from the Oregon Department of Forestry Southwest Oregon District deployed at the head of the fire and were able to stop the fire before taking off up the hill and reaching the neighbors house. After the quick containment, crews transitioned to extensive mop-up and overhaul of the garage.
A dog that was under the back porch of the garage scurried into the main house unharmed, after being startled by firefighters. The dog remained safely sheltered inside until owners were escorted back in.
Rural Metro’s Fire Investigation Team is looking into the cause of the fire.
Rural Metro received assistance at the scene and with station coverage, by multiple units from GP Fire, AMR-Josephine County, Rogue River Fire District, Illinois Valley Fire District, Applegate Valley Fire District, Josephine County Sheriff’s Office and Pacific Power.
