On Saturday, October 20, at approximately 4:00 PM. Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to a two-vehicle crash just outside Coos Bay on Hwy 42 near milepost 33 in Coos County.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 1998 Toyota Tacoma, operated by 28-year-old Thomas Wagner from Coquille, was westbound on Hwy 42 when it crossed into the eastbound lanes and struck a 2004 Chevy 2500 (pulling an ATV trailer), operated by 44-year-old Dwayne Stockton from Roseburg.
Wagner, who was not wearing his safety belt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.
Passengers in the Toyota Tacoma, 26-year-old Katelyn Wiley from Broadbent and 23-year-old Blaine Monson from Myrtle Point were both transported with injuries. Neither were wearing safety belts.
Speed and alcohol use by Wagner are being investigated as probable causes of the crash.
Stockton was transported to the hospital with injuries. His passengers 43-year-old Douglas Grinstead from Roseburg, 19-year-old Justin Grinstead from Roseburg, and a juvenile male were all treated at the scene for injuries.
Oregon State Police were assisted by Coos County Sheriff’s Office, Myrtle Point Police, Bandon Police, Bridge Fire, Myrtle Point EMS, Coquille Ambulance, Coos Sumner Fire, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
