Just before 11:30 am Sunday, February 10, the Illinois Valley Fire District responded to a Large Vehicle Fire in the parking lot of SPEEDY MART, at the intersection of HWY 199 and Watkins St. in Cave Junction.
When the first unit arrived it was a Motor Coach engulfed in flames. The fire was quickly knocked down. The owner, who had tried to rescue his large dog, suffered minor burns on his arm. He was unsuccessful and sadly, the dog died in the fire.
The cause of the fire was a portable propane heater that the owner was using while driving.
Illinois Valley Fire District was assisted by Josephine County Sheriff’s Office while Illinois Valley CERT provided traffic control.
