Mild on the Coast with Heat and Smoke Warnings in the Valley

Mild temperatures are forecast for the coastal areas this week with minimal effects from the heavy smoke.

BROOKINGS:

However, an Excessive Heat Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service forecasting a prolonged period of hot temperatures and thick smoke for the week in the valley.

The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine with an AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE could create a DANGEROUS SITUATION in which heat illnesses are possible.

MEDFORD:

The latest HRRR-smoke (High-Resolution Rapid Refresh) forecast for the next 24 hours.

Thinnest smoke (surface) will be along the coast from Eureka south and from Coos Bay north, north of Roseburg, and also way out over the east side and up toward Bend.

Even those areas probably won’t be totally immune from some smoke, whether it’s high level (lofted) or at the ground. Stay inside if you can in a well-filtered air-conditioned building.

If you can’t, please be sure to wear masks that are labeled with “N95”, “NIOSH” or “P100”.
