And the shoes just keep getting bigger and more difficult to fill as the Brookings Les Schwab ‘Star Student-Athlete’ series selects yet another outstanding BHHS student-athlete in Manny Zamora.
Manny Zamora was a multi-sport student-athlete throughout his four-year BHHS sports career. BHHS varsity football coach Shaun Bavaro told the Wild Coast Compass “Manny is just made of the right stuff…, positive leadership, passion, he’s dynamic on/off the field, a hard worker with grit and determination, but above all, a relentless approach to any goal he has ever had.”
On the football field, Zamora played multiple positions on offense and defense for the Bruins and was the vocal leader as captain for two years.
During his senior year on the gridiron for the Bruins Zamora lined up on offense as a running back averaging just under 6 yards per carry. Zamora was handed the ball 90 times and ran for 507 yards on the season getting into the endzone 5 times.
On the defensive side of the ball, Zamora lined up at linebacker. Anchoring the middle of the Bruin defense, Manny had 15 solo tackles, assisted on 28 other tackles, and recorded 6 tackles for a loss in the 2019 season.
Manny also participated in the BHHS basketball program and wrestled 2 years for the Bruins. But Zamora also had a passion for the baseball diamond and was a key contributor on the field and at the plate in the Bruins Championship run in the 2019 season.
“Manny makes whatever he is around better,” said Coach Bavaro, “people, sports teams, leadership class, and has helped tremendously to move our program forward building a solid foundation for our future success.” coach Bavaro went on to say.
Manny Zamora left his mark during his time at Bruins Harbor High School while carrying a 3.34 GPA, and will undoubtedly use his determination and leadership abilities as he embarks on a new adventure after committing to the U.S. Navy.
Good Luck Manny in all your future endeavors.
