Large Amounts of Narcotics Thrown Out of Vehicle During Chase, Before Crash and Arrest

Late Wednesday evening, February 9th, detectives with the Rogue Area Drug Enforcement Team, the Grants Pass Police Department narcotics detection K9 officer Match, and the Rogue River Police Department, initiated a traffic enforcement stop on a subject who had been under investigation for approximately 2.5 months from the time he was released from prison.

The individual, identified as 44 year old Derek James Williams, attempted to elude police officers in his vehicle, during which, Williams attempted to discard large quantities of narcotics out the window of his vehicle. 

Williams was eventually drove his vehicle off a steep embankment during a short chase, and was apprehended on Broadway Street in Rogue River. At the end of the pursuit, K9 officer Match was utilized to locate the narcotics.

Seized during the arrest was over 1.5 pounds of methamphetamine, 1/4 pound of heroin, 1 oz of suspected fentanyl, cash, and a firearm.

Williams was taken into custody and transported to the Josephine County Jail where he was lodged on a Parole Violation Detainer and several other narcotic-related charges.
