Springfield police charged a 23-year-old Springfield man with murder after an hours long investigation overnight, which began with a shooting inside an apartment on West Centennial Blvd. last night at about 6:30 p.m. Police received 9-1-1 calls reporting gunfire and that people had been shot.
Jordan Wyatt Ledbetter, age 23 of 506 West Centennial Blvd. Apartment 92 is charged with Murder and related assault and weapons charges and will be lodged at the Lane County Jail.
Police are withholding the relationships between the shooter and the victims names at this time until notification of next of kin can be accomplished. But this information will be forthcoming.
When officers arrived on last night they encountered a chaotic scene with two victims suffering from gunshot wounds lying at the base of a staircase leading to the involved apartment. These two victims had been shot in the chest and arm respectively, and while conscious and breathing, were in need of urgent medical care. The man who died was one of these two men who had been shot in the chest. He had been immediately transported via EMS to Riverbend hospital. He received emergency medical attention throughout the evening but ultimately died from the traumatic gunshot wound shortly after 1 a.m.
Police worked through the night at the apartment complex and have seized evidence, including the gun used in the shooting, which was located outside the apartment.

Two other victims, one shot in the arm and a third, who had been shot in the neck, are still recovering from their injuries and both underwent medical treatment yesterday evening.
Police had initially responded to this incident as a potential “active-shooter” scenario, a call that typically creates widespread police response from surrounding jurisdictions to help in containing the shooter. Such was the case in this instance, with spontaneous responses of officers from Eugene, Lane County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police.
Springfield police had contained the incident and arrested the suspect by the time this outside agency response had occurred but Lieutenant Scott McKee said, “Jurisdiction is no obstacle when there is the threat of an active shooter. This rapid multi-agency response should be comforting to the citizens of Lane County, knowing there will be a prompt coordinated response if such an incident should arise.”
Ultimately, Springfield police have confirmed last night all victims were shot while inside the apartment.
Illicit narcotics played a role in the shooting. Ledbetter will be formally arraigned on Monday.
23-year-old Jordan Wyatt Ledbetter is being held on charges of Murder, 2 counts of Assault I, 2 counts of Assault II, Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
