On Saturday, July 15th, Jackson County Search and Rescue with Jackson County Sheriff;s Deputies as well as the Applegate Valley Fire District and Ashland Fire & Rescue personnel responded to a call for hang glider stuck in a tree Saturday afternoon.

Search and Rescue Technical Rope Rescue Teams assisted in helping the man stuck in a dead tree after the hang glider crashed into a tree near Woodrat Mountain Road in rural Jacksonville just after 2:00pm.

The glider and pilot were stuck in a dead tree approximately 40 feet in the air, held up only by a few branches of the dead tree, making the rescue very technical and dangerous.

The SAR ropes team assisted firefighters to slowly lower the man out of the tree, getting pilot of the hang glider safely of the ground just before 6:00pm. The pilot was evaluated and did not need medical assistance.
