Just after midnight Monday morning, the Grants Pass Department of Public Services dispatch center received 911 reports of a male subject who had been struck by a vehicle on Rogue River Hwy. in Grants Pass. Police and Fire/Rescue units responded along with American Medical Response. When officials arrived on the scene, a male subject was found in the roadway and the vehicle, and a 2004 Honda Civic pulled over on the side of the roadway.
The male in the roadway was unresponsive but breathing. He had obvious injuries, was tended to by Fire/Rescue and American Medical Response personnel. The man was later identified as 21 year-old, Tyler Lyons from Medford. He was taken to Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford with serious but determined non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle, Jeffrey Kime Pelt was cooperative with the investigation and was not impaired by intoxicants. The Grants Pass Department of Public Services Traffic reconstruction specialists and a major crimes detective were summoned to assist with the investigation.
From witness statements and evidence at the scene, it appears Lyons ran out in front of the vehicle Kime Pelt was operating. Alcohol consumption by Lyons appears to be a major factor in this incident. His family was contacted and responded to the Medford area hospital. The location of the roadway is not an area for pedestrians to cross, it is about 100 yards from marked crosswalks.
