Man Dies in Remote ATV Crash

Wednesday August 7, 2019 the Curry County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from the Agness area regarding an ATV crash on Foster Bar Road where the operator was unresponsive. During the call, a Reach Medical crew and their Helicopter were at the Gold Beach airport conducting training with Sheriff’s Deputies and they were asked to respond to the Agness area for the 911 call.

Two Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Agness area and upon arrival, they met with the Agness Fire and Rescue and Cal-Ore life flight at the crash scene. Deputies and Medical crews found that the operator and only occupant of the side by side ATV was deceased. Deputies identified the deceased as forty eight year old Michael Warner of Agness.

Sheriff’s Deputies notified Warner’s wife and family at that time. The initial investigation shows that Warner was in the Side by Side ATV alone and was apparently going to Foster Bar to help set up campsites for family when the crash happened. Evidence at the scene indicated that alcohol and speed may have been a contributing factor. The Curry County District Attorney was notified who authorized the release of Warner to Redwood Memorial. The Curry County Medical Examiner was notified and will determine cause of death. Warner was not wearing a seat belt or any protective head gear.

Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Michael Warner.
