Just after 8:30 pm Sunday evening, March 3st., officers with the Eureka Police Department responded to a residence regarding a report that 66-year-old Danny Floyd Waters was threatening to kill his family and was in possession of a handgun.
While officers were still en route, the caller updated dispatch that a shot had been fired inside the residence while a family member was struggling to take away the firearm from Waters. No persons were struck or injured by the fired round.
Officers arrived on scene and found Waters and the family member still struggling over the firearm on the living room floor. Officers were able to disarm Waters and take him into custody without further incident.
Due to the nature of the investigation, Detectives responded to the scene and a search warrant was ultimately served at the residence. As a result of the search warrant service, 19 firearms and over 100 pounds of various caliber ammunition was located and seized. Several of the firearms were not California compliant and illegally manufactured.
Waters was arrested and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for attempted murder, assault with a firearm, threats, and resisting arrest. He is being held on $750,000 bail. This is an ongoing investigation and further information will be released as appropriate.
