Early Friday afternoon, April 8th, Del Norte High School administration notified Crescent City Police that an unknown person driving a truck, with a known student in the passenger seat, brandished what appeared to be an assault weapon, but was potentially a “splat-gun” in the back lot of the high school just after noon Friday.
Administration showed Officer Sanders Surveillance footage of the truck was shown to the officer, and shortly after, the truck was located with the known student, and a traffic stop was initiated in the main parking lot of the high school.
The driver, identified as 21 year old Ethan James, initially stated that there were no weapons in the vehicle. However, during a search of the truck a concealed .22 caliber rifle, .22 rim fire ammunition, a BB gun, and a “splat-ball” gun were located in the vehicle.
James was arrested for possession of a firearm on school grounds, possession of a concealed firearm, and possession of a non-firearm weapon, on school grounds.
The student is also subject to administrative discipline at this time. The investigation is still ongoing, and James was booked at the Del Norte County Jail.
