Coos County Dispatch received a 911 call to report an injury to a minor at a residence in Bandon early Monday evening, July 22nd, and a Coos County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to Southern Coos Hospital to speak with the victim.
Upon investigation, it was discovered the injury was caused by a BB gun shot that occurred as the victim was clearing brush in her backyard to uncover an old fort, when she suddenly experienced severe shoulder pain.
Her mother, who from inside the house, heard a “pop” sound, then found her teenage daughter bleeding heavily.
Their neighbor, 41 year old Chase Tolliver, was observed standing outside, angrily staring at the victim and her mother.
The victim was transported to the hospital, where medical staff determined that removing the BB posed significant risks.
After completing the investigation, it was concluded that Mr. Tolliver had shot the victim with a BB gun, causing serious injury.
Subsequently, Mr. Tolliver was arrested for Assault in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon and was then transported to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked, processed, and lodged.
