Man Arrested for Allegedly Sharing Images of Child Sexual Abuse

Jackson County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested a Medford man Wednesday July 24th, on charges related to possessing and sharing images of child sexual abuse. The arrest caps a nine-month investigation that began with a cyber tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

In October 2018, the Oregon Department of Justice Internet Crimes Against Children investigators notified Jackson County Sheriff’s detectives of a case involving online images of child abuse shared on Facebook. The initial Internet Crimes Against Children investigation revealed one of the participants was located in Jackson County.

32 year old Derrick Christopher Estrada

Through their collaborative investigation, Internet Crimes Against Children investigators and Jackson County Sheriff’s detectives identified the suspect as 32 year old Derrick Christopher Estrada. Detectives served search warrants at Estrada’s home and a second Medford residence associated with Estrada. Detectives were further assisted by investigators with the Oregon State Police and the Southern Oregon High Tech Crimes Task Force.

On July 17, 2019, a grand jury indicted Estrada on nine counts of encouraging child sexual abuse in the first degree and nine counts of encouraging child sexual abuse in the second degree. A judge signed an arrest warrant for Estrada for these charges and assigned bail at $180,000.

On July 24, 2019, Jackson County Sheriff’s detectives arrested Estrada on the warrant. He was lodged in the Jackson County jail.
