In October of 2019, the Crescent City Police Department responded to the Subway on Hwy 101 S, regarding a report of an armed robbery. At the time of the investigation, the suspect was not located. At one point during the robbery, the victim was locked in the bathroom before the suspect fled the scene.
On Wednesday, September 23rd, Crescent City Police Officer Cooper was granted an Arrest Warrant for a suspect he had identified through his ongoing investigation regarding the 2019 armed robbery. Later in the evening, Crescent City Police Officers with the assistance of K9 Officer Lt. Kai were able to locate and arrest the suspect.
51-year-old Johnny Ponciano was arrested and lodged in the Del Norte County Jail for Armed Robbery, False Imprisonment, and Kidnapping. The investigation has been forwarded to the Del Norte County District Attorney for review.
