On September 29th, 2019, Medford Police responded the Rogue Valley Mall for a male who had apparently shot himself in the neck with a .38 revolver. The subject was eventually found at a local emergency room, where he was being treated for a non life threatening gunshot wound to the neck.
The investigation revealed the suspect was handling the revolver while seated in a vehicle at the Rogue Valley Mall parking lot, when it apparently accidentally discharged. He was driven to the hospital by an acquaintance who was present during the incident.
The suspect, 20 years old Nelson Loretto, is a convicted felon and a registered sex offender. He was found to be out of compliance with his registration.
After being treated, Nelson was lodged on September 30th, on the following charges: Felon in Possession of a Weapon, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Failure to Report as a Sex Offender, Probation Violation, Rape 3, and Unlawful Possession of Heroin.
