Lobster Creek Fire Update

The Lobster Creek Fire started on the afternoon of July 1st on private timberlands 12 miles northeast of Gold Beach in the Lobster Creek and Fall Creek drainages. The fire is currently about 450+ acres and 10 percent contained and is burning in the heart of timberlands and currently poses no threat to homes or communities at this time.

During the Lobster Creek Fire briefing late Monday afternoon, the Incident Commander noted that, despite high winds and dry conditions, the fire area has not moved or grown substantially. It was also noted that a quick air assault played a huge role, along with ground accessibility. The Oregon Department of Forestry officially took over command of the incident from Coos Fire Protection Agency at 6:00 pm Monday evening.

Fire authorities have not elaborated or given much information as to the cause of the fire other than that it was “human caused” and have not given specific information on the condition of the Lobster Creek Campground area itself.

Most recent reports indicate that there are currently 150 firefighters working on the fire with bulldozers, fire engines, crews, and aircraft. Winds on the Lobster Creek Fire have been consistently coming out of the west northwest and pushing the smoke away from populated areas.

Fire crews have stopped the fire’s progress and continue to reinforce containment lines. The fire is 10 percent contained as of the last official update late Monday evening.
