Late Wednesday Evening Blaze in Crescent City Destroys Large Commercial Building

Late Wednesday evening, June 19th, multiple agencies were dispatched to reports of a commercial structure fire at an address off of Elk Valley Rd., near the Del Norte Transfer Station, at approximately 10:15pm.  

First arriving units reported a substantial portion of a 300×60 structure being rented by multiple parties, well involved with visible flames, and mutual aid was requested from surrounding agencies including Fort Dick, Smith River and Gasquet Fire, as well as Pelican Bay State Prison Fire.  

Almost two dozen fire personnel from multiple agencies remained battling the blaze for over 8 hours through out the night, before leaving the scene after pumping approximately 732,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire.  

The facility is considered a total loss and an investigation has been initiated by the Del Norte Sheriff’s Office.
