The Azalea Middle School Bruin football team, coming off a decisive win against Coquille last week, were on the road to Myrtle Point Wednesday afternoon to challenge the Myrtle Point Bobcats.
The Bobcats proved to be well prepared for the powerful AZ Bruin team and defensively held their own in the first half, and offensively surprised Azalea putting up 18 points in the first half of play.
With the score 14-18 Bobcats after the first half, both teams would score in the second half making the score 25-20 late in the fourth quarter.
But Azalea, trailing for the first time this season, would rally behind Azalea 8th grade quarterback Grady Maylin, #12, and #24, Skylar Tribur, who would hook-up on a 55 yard pass play over the middle and race untouched into the endzone to break the game open, and give the AZ Bruins a 25-28 lead late.
The Azalea defense would shut down the Bobcat offense that held a late lead, and add two more touchdowns to take home another decisive win, 25-40.
Talking with coach Mike Hamilton after the game he told the Compass, “No one can say that this Azalea team doesn’t have heart, this team persevered through a tough start, and came back big to get the win.”
