The California Highway Patrol and CalTrans have announced that after solid progress regarding repairs along U.S. Hwy. 199 near the Oregon border in Del Norte County, the last day of three-hour closures will be TODAY, Friday, Oct. 27th.
U.S. Hwy. 199 has been subject to an emergency wildfire response since August, and with the previous closure schedule, crews have remediated hazardous trees, damaged guardrail, and damaged signage as well as elevated cable net drapery systems. Upcoming work includes remediating additional hazardous trees, installing more signage, and installing rock-fall catchment systems.
Late Friday afternoon, Oct. 27th, the closure schedule is planned to be suspended after 4:00pm. Saturday and Sunday will be the first days without traffic control since the fire started, however, work is still ongoing and travelers should expect up to one-hour delays from 8:00am to 5:00pm on weekdays.
Delays should be minimal outside of those hours, and should Saturday work be necessary, prior notice will be given in advance.
