On Friday night the 6-1 Lady Bruins hosted the 1-6 Lady Bulldogs of North Bend. Unlike the first matchup between these two teams both teams came out running and ready to go.
Both teams started in their 2-3 defenses, however the Lady Bruins added a little guard pressure on their defensive end not allowing the Lady Bulldogs to hold onto the ball and get into any sort of rhythm early in the match.
The Lady Bruins had five players in the scoring books in the first period, with junior Chloe McCrae leading the way with four points. Freshman forward Lexi Schofield #1, sophomore guard #11 Sidney Alexander and Abby Farmer all hit a basket in the first period as the Lady Bruins hit for 11 points while holding the Lady Bulldogs to 9 points in the first period of play.
As play moved into the second period, the Lady Bruins again decided to get the ball in the paint. Freshman forward Lexi Schofield hit for 7 points off of a basket, a 3 pointer and hitting 1 of 2 from the line. Farmer hit for 7 points and senior guard Malia Leddy #5 and #10 sophomore guard Avana Pettus hit for 2 in the second period.
The Lady Bruins defense held the Lady Bulldogs to 11 points in the second period as they pressed them aggressively in the period as the Lady Bruins put up 17 points taking the teams to the halftime break with the Bruins leading 28-20.
As the second period started the Lady Bruins continued the up-tempo play overwhelming North Bend with drives into the paint and scrappy determined rebounding. The Lady Bulldogs could not keep up with Lady Bruins as they ran away in the period. Farmer hit two 3 pointers and two free throws and Lexi Schofield scored 4 points off of two buckets as the Lady Bruins separated themselves from the Lady Bruins scoring 18 in the 3rd period.
After holding the Lady Bulldogs to just 11 points in the third the Lady Bruins turned up the intensity of the defense and put North Bend away only allowing 5 points in the fourth. Senior forward Brianna Humphrey #4, Lexi Schofield, #11 Sidney Alexander all hit 2 buckets a piece in the quarter as the Lady Bruins put 19 points up in the fourth period taking the lopsided win 65-36.
Coach Schofield said “I thought we showed good resilience tonight although we are not very judicious with our fouls tonight. We gave up too many free throws….but our ability to get out in transition made all the difference in the second half.” he went on to say.
The Lady Bruins face off against a 3-5 South Umpqua team next Tuesday at home.
