The Lady Bruins and head coach Brian Carlson closed out the 2020/2021 season with a two game win streak and their 7th shut-out of the season.
The Lady Bruins showed early on that they had no intentions of letting doubt cloud their way to victory Friday afternoon, as seven determined seniors may have played their last contest on Bruin pitch.
The attack was early and swift, applying pressure to every loose ball, everywhere on the field. The Lady Bruin mid-field dominated play again, controlling the pace as well as time of possession, while applying pressure to a stubborn Lady Red Devil off-side trap that caught the Lady Bruin front line off-side multiple times in the first half.
But the mid-field was relentless, pushing break-aways through the Lady Red Devil back line until ultimately breaking the defense down for junior forward Zoe Carlson #11 to collect a pass outside the penalty box, and push it past the Lady Red Devil keeper to take a 1-0 lead just 4:00 minutes into contest.
Ball control in the center of the field favored the Lady Bruins, however, the Lady Red Devil offense did have opportunities in front of the Lady Bruin goal, but the defensive back line denied open shots and second opportunities.
A loose ball in the Lady Red Devil penalty box was gathered up by senior Faith Burton #22 and the Lady Bruin mid-fielder worked the ball through the defenders and put the ball behind the keeper 18 minutes into the first half, giving the Lady Bruins a 2-0 lead.
Protecting a 2-0 lead to start the second half of play, the Lady Bruins came out and pressured the Lady Red Devils even more, keeping the ball on Coquille’s half of the field, and taking the Lady Red Devil defense out of their off-side trap.
Just 7:00 minutes into the second half, junior Lily Strahm #2 gathered the ball just outside the penalty box, put herself in position to take the outside shot, and scored from just outside the goal box, making the score 3-0.
Lady Bruin senior striker Hannah James #5 put the ball in the net twice in the second half, once on an outside shot just inside the penalty box, and the other on a break away challenging the Coquille keeper. Senior mid-fielder Meagan Pearson #18 added to the final tally scoring on a break away of her own, adding to the Lady Bruin 6-0 win.
With win, the Lady Bruins finished the 2020/2021 regular season with an overall record of 10-3 and now await to be placed in the post season tournament by OSAA.
