The Lady Bruins Varsity soccer team played another pre-season match Wednesday afternoon. New coach Kyla Siri placed a prepared squad on the pitch in their meeting with the Illinois Valley Lady Cougars.
The Lady Bruins wasted no time Wednesday, jumping the Lady Cougars within minutes of the opening whistle as Avana Pettus drove down to score one of her 6 goals on the day.
After scoring just 2 goals on the Lady Cougars in the first half, the Lady Bruins spent the second half almost entirely in the Illinois Valley half of the field. Ball control and fast breaks frustrated the Lady Cougars the entire second half. The frustration resulted in two penalty kicks for the Lady Bruins of which Anna Serna scored one of two.
Again, this is pre-season, and these games are primarily for testing players in different positions, different gameplans as coaches work players into game shape. Scoring is always good, but not necessarily the goal of these match-ups.
The pre-season will continue for the Lady Bruins at home next Wednesday, September 5th, as the Marshfield Lady Pirates sail into town at 5:00pm.
