The Lady Bruins varsity basketball team took the show on the road again Tuesday night visiting a 0-6 Siuslaw Lady Vikings team. Just three weeks ago these two teams met in Bruins Arena and the Lady Bruins rolled up 56 points against the Lady Vikings.
The Lady Bruins walked onto the floor with their engines revved and left the line in a hurry jumping out to an 11-2 lead before the Lady Vikings knew what hit them. Senior guard Malia Leddy #5 started all scoring for the Bruins on her way to one of her best games of the season sinking a 3 pointer from the baseline corner. The Bruins ran all over the 2-3 defense of the Lady Vikings getting 6 players in the scoring book in the first period.
Abby Farmer led all scorers in the first period hitting two 3 point shots, a lay-up and going 2 for 2 from the line. Senior guard Makaila Holmes hit for 3, senior center Chloe McCrae #44 hit or 2 points as freshman forward #1 Lexi Schofield and sophomore Avana Pettus #10 both went 1 of 2 from the line giving the Lady Bruins 20 points in the period.
In the second period, missing the inside play of senior center Brianna Humphrey, the Lady Bruins began pounding the ball into the paint to Lexi Schofield and Abby Farmer who each got to the foul line four times in the period. The Lady Bruins put 11 more points in the books in the period and got to the free throw line 12 times in the period taking 31 points into the halftime break.
Coming out in the third period the Lady Bruins put a soft press on the Lady Vikings to slow down Siuslaw and get themselves into the third period quickly. The soft press would not only slow down the Lady Vikings, it would also cause turnovers and fastbreak opportunities for the Lady Bruins. The Lady Bruins again get 7 players in the scoring book in the period with Malia Leddy leading Bruin scorers with 5 points off of two buckets and a free throw, leading the Lady Brookings to 17 points in the period.
It wouldn’t be until the fourth period that the Lady Bruins would lift their foot off of the gas pedal. Abby Farmer led all scorers with 18 points, followed by Lexi Schofield with 12 points, and then Malia Leddy with 10 points on the night.
Coach Schofield commented, “The girls did a good job staying focused since we’re a little shorthanded without Brianna tonight, but I thought Chloe, Lexi, and Abby did a good job holding down the fort inside”.
The Lady Bruins would score 53 points on the night as the defense held the Lady Vikings to just 4 points in each of the first 3 periods and only 24 points in the game.
This Friday night the Lady Bruins are at home against a 1-6 North Bend Lady Bulldog team that the Lady Bruins dispatched with a 51-29 win on January 19th.
