Brookings High School’s Sierra Fitzhugh has signed a letter of intent to attend and play basketball on scholarship for the Umpqua Community College RiverHawks.
In the fall, Sierra Fitzhugh will make her new home campus in Roseburg, attending Umpqua Community College and starting a new path in her basketball career.
Playing for Coach Schofield in the BHHS girls Lady Bruin basketball program, Sierra made her mark in Lady Bruin basketball history. “She’s a fierce competitor who hates to lose.” coach Schofield said. “That, combined with her athleticism and nose for the ball, made her a top-notch defender, and offensively, she got stronger every year.”
In her final three games during the Lady Bruins play-off run, Sierra averaged 26 points per game, scoring 22 points against Douglas, 27 at Sutherlin and 29 against Nyssa in the final playoff game.
Fitzhugh led the Lady Bruins in scoring each of the past two seasons, and averaged 17.8 points per game this past season, placing her average 5th highest in school history. Her 77 career 3’s made is #8 all time in school history and her career 3-point percentage is #3 all-time.
“Sierra is a gamer…and she comes up big in the biggest games.” Coach Schofield told the Compass. There is no doubt that Sierra will grow to be a big part of head coach Dave Stricklin’s Lady RiverHawks program.
Congratulations, and good luck.
