Friday, December 1st, the Lady Bruins played their second-round game in the Yreka Miner Invitational tournament facing off with the Modoc Lady Braves.
The Lady Bruins began the contest in a full court press that surprised Modoc resulting in 2 turnovers and 7 points on the board. However, the Modoc Lady Braves quickly adjusted to the pressure and went on an 11 point run taking the lead 11 to 9.
The Lady Bruins continued their pressure defense but could not hit their shots from the outside as Modoc took advantage of Bruin fouls, hitting their free throws and taking a 23-22 lead into the half-time break.
The second half was much of the same. The Lady Bruins continued to rely on the outside shot and remained cold, while Modoc adjusted to the press by dumping the ball over the top and converting their layups and free throws. The Bruins lack of presence inside the key kept Modoc out of foul trouble as the Bruins had only 2 free throws in first three quarters.
The Modoc Lady Braves would go on to defeat the Lady Bruins 46-38.
However, yesterday’s news did have some positive aspects as the Lady Bruins senior guard #00 Abby Farmer took the girls 3-point shooting contest. In a contest that featured 9 shooters from a variety of schools, Farmer set the school record with 12 made 3-point shots in 60 seconds and followed that with 10 more in the final 30 seconds. Ultimately Farmer hit 22 3-point shots in the 90 seconds allotted becoming the Girls 3-point Champion.
