Lady Bruins Move on to Postseason Play

Lady Bruins stand for the National Anthem before play Thursday night.

The 8-2 Lady Bruins were on the road Thursday as they played their final league game of the season at the home of the Marshfield Pirates.

When these two teams met earlier in the season, Marshfield was the victim of a newly revitalized Lady Bruin team who had recently suffered their first set back of the season the week before. The Lady Bruins took note of their last meeting and picked up right where they left off.

In a game that would have playoff implications as to match-ups, the Lady Bruins looked to control their own destiny and leave with a win. The rain and the slick field would not be a problem as Anna Serna would start off the scoring at the 22:00 minute mark, and then waste no time following that score with another off a corner kick from senior #2 Stephanie Birks.

Less than 6 minutes later #10 sophomore forward Avana Pettus would find the back of the net taking the Lady Bruins into the halftime break with a 3-0 lead.

Senior Captain defender Emma Leonard #13 took command of the defense and be sure the ball would spend most of its time in Marshfield’s defensive end as the Lady Bruins denied fast breaks and forced the Pirate offense to the outside for the majority of the game.

Not to be left out, center midfielder and Senior Captain #18 Abby Farmer would get the ball past the Pirate keeper for the final score of the game. The Lady Bruins needed to leave Marshfield’s home field with no injuries going into the playoffs and a win to keep building confidence as they move on to postseason play.

Ending the game with a 4-0 win, the Lady Bruins finished in second place in the FWL and put the Lady Bruins into a Play-in situation that they will tentatively host on Saturday, October 28th, against a yet to be determined opponent.
