The Lady Bruin volleyball team hosted the Sutherlin Lady Lancers Tuesday evening in their second league and home game. The Lady Lancers came into the contest hoping to snap a two game losing streak, and the Lady Bruins were determined to get their first league win.
In the first set, the Lady Lancers took an early lead but the Lady Bruins battled back to keep the set close. Play behind the net was crucial for the Lady Bruins with hustle plays in the backcourt extending points as the Lady Bruins closed the gap.
The Lady Lancers closed out the 1st set with a 19-25 win, and started the 2nd set by keeping the pressure on the Lady Bruins. The Lady Bruins dug themselves a hole to start the set and the Lady Lancers did not let the Lady Bruins make the set close and closed out the Lady Bruins 13-25 to take a 0-2 set lead.
In the 3rd set both teams traded points keeping the score close through out the set. Again, hustle plays in the backcourt kept the Lady Bruins in the set as they fought to keep the match alive. But the Lady Bruins could not get in front- of the Lady Lancers, and even after drawing close the Lady Lancers closed out the match with an 18-25 win.
Coach Nidiffer told the Wild Coast Compass after the match “the team was passing well, but we just couldn’t get our offense going.” she said. “We had Pryor in the back digging everything, but we also had an enormous amount of unforced hitting errors and it’s tough to win a game that way.”
The Lady Bruins will be looking for their first win of the season, traveling to take on the Douglas Lady Trojans Thursday in Winston at 6:00pm.
