The Lady Bruins held their first preseason home game Tuesday night. Coach Schofield’s team showed the work they have done since their last games as they played a Hidden Valley Mustang team tough.
The Lady Bruins came out in their 2-3 zone defense and frustrated the Lady Mustangs early in the first quarter. However, the Lady Mustangs would exploit the zone defense with outside shots and lead after the first quarter 13-7.
In the second period, the Lady Bruins turned up the offensive pressure, driving the lane and putting 12 points on the board in the quarter. But the offensive pressure from the Lady Bruins left the defense exposed and the outside shooting of the Lady Mustangs forced the Lady Bruins to a full-court press late in the 2nd quarter. Hidden Valley quickly adjusted and took advantage by throwing the ball over the top of the press which led to a 17 point second quarter and a 31-19 lead at the half.
The Lady Bruins came out in the 3rd period and again pressured Hidden Valley, but 3 point shots from the outside hurt Brookings-Harbor as Hidden Valley added 10 more points to the Lady Bruins 6 points in the 3rd period.
But Brookings-Harbor wasn’t going away easy. Abby Farmer, who led the Bruins in scoring with 14 points on the night, began to drive the lane and get to the free throw line. With Lexi Schofield working inside and grabbing some rebounds and the Lady Bruins collapsing their 2-3 zone on the shooters, Brookings-Harbor would pull within 5 points with 4:30 left in the game.
Hidden Valley would stretch their 4th quarter lead to 10 points and finish the game with a final score of 48-38.
The Lady Bruins will play another preseason game on the road this Friday against North Valley at 6:00 pm.
