Lady Bruins Handle the Pirates

Forward Addie Dresen #15 faces off with a Marshfield defender.

The 4-1 Lady Bruins face the Marshfield Pirates Tuesday afternoon at home after a week on the road.

Brookings-Harbor ladies were obviously happy to be home as they wasted no time taking it to the Pirates early and often.

The Lady Bruins showed up and started with a new formation taking defensive standout #18 Abby Farmer previously controlling the defense from the sweeper position, and placing the captain at the center halfback position to take command of the middle of the field.

Abby Farmer #18 controls the ball at midfield.

This position and formation change has paid off with goals as Abby Farmer would have a 3 goal hat-trick in the first half, and would go on to score a total of 5 on the day.

Controlling the center of the field has allowed the defensive fullbacks to tighten up the backfield, and keep most offensive attacks at bay with more confidence in the offside trap shortening the playing field making it difficult for the Pirates to keep possession.

Midfielder Lexi Schofield #14 denies a Pirate forward in the corner.

The defense would record their second shutout of the season, unleashing the offense to score 8 goals on the day. Goals came from four different players throughout the game including #17 Anna Serna, and #10 Avana Pettus.

The Lady Bruins look to continue adding to the win column as they travel Thursday to a Douglas team looking for their first win.
