Lady Bruins Hand Douglas Its Second Loss

Kyla Siri and her Lady Bruin soccer team had a quick turnaround matching up with the Douglas Lady Trojans whom the Lady Bruins handed their first league loss last Thursday. Douglas came into this game clearly with a bad taste in their mouth and a fresh gameplan to stop the Lady Bruins.

The Lady Trojans came into yesterday’s game with a new defensive plan. Last Thursday, the Lady Bruins ran on Douglas, so Douglas defense packed the penalty box and did not play an offside trap. They actually pulled their sweeper back 5 yards off the defensive fullback line in an attempt to keep from getting beat with Lady Bruin front line speed.

The Lady Trojans were content to keep the ball in the middle of the field between the penalty boxes keeping the Lady Bruins out of shooting range. But the Lady Bruins would break through the defense and get a shot off as sophomore Hannah James gave senior striker Avana Pettus the pass that she would pound past the Douglas Keeper putting the Lady Bruins up 1-0 at the mid way point in the first half.

Sophomore Faith Burton #18 has been a force for the Lady Bruins mid-field.

Both teams would spend the remainder of the first half struggling to assert control in the middle of the field.

The second half started out as the first half left off with both teams playing ball control in the middle of the field. That is until the Lady Trojans launched a high arcing shot from the top right corner of the penalty box. The high shot looped over the outstretched arms of junior Lady Bruin keeper Annie Nation knotting up the score 5:00 minutes into the second half.

Junior defender Laisha Olmedo #20 has been a big part of the Lady Bruins defense.

Again the game would turn into a ball control struggle with challenged passes and traps to disrupt either team from developing a coordinated attack.

But Pettus and James would hook up again later in the second half, but this time Pettus would serve up the volley across the face of the goal that Hanna James would run onto and hit the one touch shot into the right lower corner of the Douglas goal.

The Lady Bruins would go on to take the 3-1 win against a tough and determined Douglas Lady Trojan team. Kyla Siri and her Lady Bruins now sit at 3-0 and will host the OSAA #6 ranked Cascade Christian Lady Challengers this SATURDAY afternoon at 2:00pm.
