Head coach Brian Carlson and his varsity Lady Bruin soccer team extended their 4 game win streak Monday afternoon hosting the Del Norte Lady Warriors in a rematch of the Monday October 4th game at Del Norte where the Lady Bruins came away with a 2-0 win.
The Lady Bruins quickly took control establishing their tough defense early on, denying fast break opportunities for the Lady Warriors, sweeping away attacks to the outside and working upfield to start the offensive attack.
The Lady Bruins struck first in the 18th minute of play when senior mid-fielder Faith Burton #22 broke the Del Norte offside trap with a pass to senior Hannah James #5 who broke through the middle defenders and outran them to the goal box before putting in the net to give the Lady Bruins a 1-0 lead.
Defensive play intensified after the goal, and the Lady Bruins turned away all attempts by the Lady Warriors to even the score. The defense for the Lady Bruins again cleared away attacks, pushing the ball upfield where junior Lily Strahm #2 gathered up a loose ball just outside the penalty box and drove to the goal, putting in the left corner, behind the Lady Warrior keeper giving the Lady Bruins a 2-0.
The Lady Bruins would go on to dominate the rest of the game after a Del Norte red card foul that left the lady Warriors with only 10 players on the pitch. The advantage opened the playing field for the Lady Bruins who used the open passing lanes to frustrate the Del Norte defense and allowed 4 other Lady Bruins to score.
Hannah James went on to score her second goal, while junior Ivy Tuttle #6, freshman Amelia Bruce #6, and junior forward Zoe Carlson added 4 more goals, to give the Lady Bruins the 6-0 and their 5th straight win…
Coach Carlson told the Compass after the game ” A lot of the work the girls are putting in practice is showing up in our passing game and crossing the ball. The defense continues to do a great job of turning back the attacks from our opponents, and have been solid all year. It’s nice to make it through this stretch of five games in eight days, we now can focus on getting healthy and getting players back for the final two weeks of the season.”
The Lady Bruins will be on the road to Sutherlin next Tuesday the 19th, who are the only team to defeat the Lady Bruins this season.
