Lady Bruin basketball head coach Chris Schofield and his Lady Bruins played their first home game of the 2019 season Tuesday night against the North Bend Lady Bulldogs.
After taking 2 of 3 games at the Yreka Tournament over the past week end, the Lady Bruins looked sharp at home and ready to go. The usual 2-3 defense with pressure in the Lady Bulldog half of the court frustrated the Lady Bulldogs early.
Behind junior Sierra Fitzhugh’s 5 points in the period, the Lady Bruins put 10 puts up and held the Lady Bulldogs to just 4 points in the quarter.
In the second quarter, senior guard #11 Sidney Alexander showed her range, sinking two 3 pointers on her way to 8 points in the period. Lexee Murray #20 hit a 3 pointer and Lexi Schofield hit two baskets for 4 of her 7 points in the first half.
Leading 25-15 after the half-time break, the Lady Bruins defense smothered the Lady Bulldogs, holding them to just 7 points in the third period. Again Lady Bruin center Sierra Fitzhugh led all Lady Bruin scorers working under the basket to put another 5 points off of 2 baskets and a freethrow. Sidney Alexander hit another 3 pointer and went 2 for 2 from the line.
The fourth quarter was the #00 Sierra Fitzhugh show after the Lady Bruin center hit a basket underneath, a 3 pointer and went 1 of 2 from the line. Jordan Crosby #34 hit a 3 pointer late in the 4th quarter as the Lady Bruins put the game away 53-40.
The Lady Bruins will be on the road to Bandon this Friday to take on the Lady Tigers at 5:30 pm.
