After Thursday’s heartbreaking loss following a double-digit comeback, a high energy Lady Bruins team jumped all over the De La Salle North Catholic Girls and ran up a 19-0 lead in the first quarter. The Lady Bruins defense did not allow De La Salle to score until the second quarter.
The Lady Bruins stepped on the floor with a high energy trapping press that frustrated De La Salle keeping them from getting the ball across the half court line, causing turnovers, fast break lay-ups and an almost 20 point lead going into the 2nd quarter.
Senior guard Abby Farmer hit 6 three-point shots, had 1 steal and led all scoring in the first half of play with 20 points. “All of the kids played with more confidence today,” said Coach Schofield.
Even though the Lady Bruins had 9 players in the scoring books, shooting and scoring was not the story of this game. Coach Schofield stated “Lexi Schofield, Malia Leddy, and Mickey Fulton were all particularly tough in the press” and he went on to say “we got great minutes out of all of the kids”. The smothering man press and subsequent trapping man zone defense played in the second half was the highlight of this contest.
The Lady Bruins played a man zone defense in the 2nd half of play and leading to a 6-0 run in the 3rd period as De La Salle struggled to put anything together offensively or defensively. The Lady Bruins went on to win the game 59-30 and will play again today at 3:30 against a team to be determined.
