A formation and position change decision made by Brookings-Harbor Varsity Girls soccer team Head Coach Fernando Villa and Asst. Coach Carol Leonard last week continues to produce positive dividends. Since last weeks move after faltering in North Bend last Tuesday, the Lady Bruins, are taking no prisoners.
The Lady Bruins rolled into the home of the Douglas Trojans on a two-game win streak in which they have scored eleven goals while allowing only one. Captain Abby Farmer #18, who scored five goals in last weeks 8-0 route of the Pirates, would again pick up where she left off and start the scoring early. She would follow up the first score of the game with another score off of a free kick pass from fellow midfielder #17 Anna Serna.
However, this week the Lady Bruins spread the goal scoring around, outmatching the Trojans with passing and unselfish play that kept Douglas on its heels throughout.
At about the midway point of the first half, #17 Anna Serna would again produce a well-placed pass the would set up #10 Avana Pettus to get her first goal. A Douglas defender miscue would lead to speedster forward #10 Avana Pettus taking advantage and finding the back of the net again.
After fully controlling the Trojans for the entirety of the first half, the Lady Bruins took a comfortable 4-0 lead into the halftime break.
Douglas played more confident in the second half, but the Lady Bruins would control the midfield for the majority of second-half play.
Just past the halfway point of the second half, midfielder #17 Anna Serna who already had two fine assists on the day, would get in on the scoring and beautifully place a direct free kick behind the keeper.
The Lady Bruins would go on to record their second shutout in a row and win the match 4-0. In their last three contests, the Lady Bruins have recorded fifteen goals and their defense has allowed only one.
