Gracie Harms on her way to a complete game.

On Monday afternoon the Brooking-Harbor girls varsity softball team took the field in their last home game of the season.

Gracie Harms was in the circle for the Lady Bruins going seven innings and striking out nine batters. Harms walked the first batter she faced on four straight pitches and then punched out the next 3 batters in the inning getting the Lady Bruins offense to the plate with no damage done. After getting four batters to the plate in the bottom of the first, both teams went into the second scoreless.

Much like the first inning, Marshfield earned a walk with the first batter of the inning, followed by a single placing two runners on the basepaths. But again Harms pitched her way out of trouble retiring a bunt attempt and them striking out the side.

Helping herself, Harms then led off the bottom of the second with a double to right field, but the Marshfield pitcher shut down the next three batters she faced ending the Lady Bruin threat.

In the top of the third, the Lady Pirates sent nine batters to the plate striking first on the scoreboard scoring 5 times in the inning. In the Lady Bruins half of the third inning they sent six batters to the plate, but could only get one runner across the plate sending both teams into the fourth 1-5 with Marshfield leading.

Gracie Harms rebounded in the top of the fourth inning sending three of four Lady Pirate back to the dug-out and holding Marshfield scoreless.

Riding the momentum of a scoreless top of the fourth, Brookins-Harbor sent eleven batters to the plate scoring five runs to tie the game at five apiece.

A walk and two consecutive errors set the table for Tillie Peters who doubled on a line drive to right center field scoring two. Another walk and error allowed Peters to score on a passed ball wild pitch in an inning where the Lady Bruins would take the lead going into the fifth leading 8-5.

With a couple of spectacular plays by Lady Bruin shortstop Lexi Schofield, Harms finished off the Lady Pirates with a strikeout sending Brookings-Harbor with the 8-5 lead going into the bottom of the fifth.

However, the Lady Pirates pitcher retired the side in order in the Lady Bruins half of the fifth.

The 5-6 Lady Pirates were not going away easy though, sending five batters to the plate and scoring twice to get within one of Brookings-Harbor going into the bottom of the sixth. Again the Marshfield pitcher would retire the Lady Bruins in order recording another shutdown inning.

In the top of the seventh Marshfield sent eight batters to the plate as three Brookings-Harbor errors would haunt the Lady Bruins when Marshfield crossed the plate three times to tie the game at 8 each and take the lead 8-10. The Lady Bruins would not recover giving the 8-10 win to Marshfield.
