Lady Bruin Softball Outlasts Douglas

Sophomore pitcher Gracie Harms #27 went seven innings striking out ten.

The Lady Bruin softball team, 6-8 in pre-season play, took the field Wednesday afternoon against the Douglas Lady Trojans in their first league match of the season.

Coach Baron brought a fired up and enthusiastic team to the field and rode that enthusiasm to its victory in an exciting well fought game from the first pitch to the last. The Lady Bruins started off slow as the Lady Trojans crossed the plate 5 times in the top of 1st.

Lady Bruin pitcher sophomore Gracie Harms settled in after the 1st and handed out 5 straight scoreless innings giving the offense an opportunity to tie it up in the 3rd with 4 runs. In the bottom of the 3rd, the Lady Bruins put together 4 consecutive hits scoring four runs to ad to the run they scored in the first tying the game at 5-5.

The Lady Bruins weren’t done yet as they went to work in the bottom of the 6th putting 5 runs across the plate when the Douglas pitcher lost the strike zone walking four allowing two hits.

The Lady Trojans mounted a four-run answer in the top of the 7th, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Lady Bruins went on to take the win 11-9.

The Lady Bruins tallied 13 hits in the game. Hannah James, Tillie Peters, Madison Taylor, Kayci Jones, and Jordan Crosby all managed multiple hits for Lady Bruins. Sophomore Tillie Peters and freshman Hannah James all had three hits to lead the Lady Bruin hitters.

The Lady Bruins will see these Douglas Lady Trojans again in a doubleheader at Douglas at 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm this Friday.
