The Lady Bruin Varsity softball team continues to struggle in what can only be described as a difficult year.

Although the players are upbeat, eager and full of heart, the team continues to be mired in lopsided loses and embarrassing defeats. Tuesday’s contest against South Umpqua was no exception.

The Lady Bruins were outscored in all of the 5 innings played at home Tuesday afternoon in a 19-0 loss in which the South Umpqua pitcher no-hit the Lady Bruins.

In the 17 games in which Brookings-Harbor softball has participated this year, the Lady Bruins have allowed 189 runs to cross the plate and have committed no less than 77 errors so far this season with six games left in season play.

It is not for a lack of effort or enthusiasm on the players part, it is clearly a fundamentals issue that has allowed 77 errors thus far in the season.

Lady Bruin batters struggled throughout the game as the South Umpqua pitcher no-hit the Bruins.

As for the lack of scoring to counter the unusually large number of errors and fielding decision mistakes, the Lady Bruins have been outmatched at the plate by superior pitching throughout the season both on the road and at home.

The Lady Bruins will be on the road later this week and will match up again with South Umpqua this Friday.
