The Lady Bruins continued their march to postseason play Thursday afternoon in their second meeting with the Red Devils of Coquille/Myrtle Point. In their last meeting just nine days ago, the Lady Bruins destroyed the Red Devils 14-1 at the Red Devils home field.
Brookings-Harbor started quickly with junior Avana Pettus and senior Anna Serna each scoring just 10:00 minutes into the game put the Lady Bruins ahead 2-0 early. The usual dominant Lady Bruins seemed off their game Thursday afternoon, missing easy passes, chasing loose balls and missing many routine shots.
Striker Avana Pettus did round up a loose ball in front of the goal from a corner kick and found the back of the net for her second goal just before the end of the first half of play.
The second half of play was much of the same, as a lethargic Brookings-Harbor team just couldn’t dominate as they have become accustomed. Lazy passes were being intercepted and Brookings-Harbor seemed to settle for being second to the ball which allowed the Red Devils to mount fast breaks consistently in the beginning of the 2nd half.
This eventually led to a Red Devil break away taking advantage of the left side of the Lady Bruin defense and getting off an outside shot from the top of the penalty box. That shot got behind the Lady Bruins keeper Annie Nation who has only allowed 4 goals all season long in league play.
The Lady Bruins then scored 3 more goals in the half, stopping all Red Devil advances for the rest of the contest. Avana Pettus found the net for her third goal of the match when she again found a loose ball in front of the Red Devil goal and put it into the corner of the net.
Senior midfielder Anna Serna found the back of the net for her second goal on the day before senior Sandra Sullivan #12 put the game away ripping the net after cross from a corner kick late in the game.
The Lady Bruins will be at home next Tuesday, October 16th, when they match up with 3-1-3 Sutherlin Bulldogs at 3:00 pm.
