The Lady Bruins continued their winning ways after handing the 6-0-1 Cascade Christian Challengers their first loss of the season in a rare non-league Saturday afternoon game.
On Tuesday, Head Coach Kyla Siri and her undefeated Lady Bruin varsity soccer team resumed league play as the Lady Lancers of South Umpqua rolled into town.
Scoring started off quickly for the Lady Bruins when Tilly Peters hit Hannah James who shed the defense creating space for a shot that would get past the Lady Lancers keeper just 1:35 seconds after the opening whistle.
The Lady Lancers stiffened their defense and held the Lady Bruins scoreless for the next 25:00 minutes. That is until Faith Burton #16 broke free for a shot just inside the left corner of the penalty box that the South Umpqua keeper would save, only to have Lady Bruin forward Lily Strahm #2 follow up the loose ball from the blocked shot and find the back of the net.
South Umpqua came out after half time adjustments and attacked the Bruin defense early, and a brief mental lapse combined with a well placed shot put the Lady Lancers on the scoreboard early in the second half making the score 2-1.
The strong Lady Bruin defense held off several mid-field attacks from the Lady Lancers who managed only a handful of looks at the Bruin goal, and as the game wore on both teams struggled to put together a cohesive offensive attack.
With seconds left in the game the Lady Bruins earned a corner kick that Lady Bruin Zoe Carlson #9 placed to sophomore Megan Pearson #7 who would strike off the volley and bury in the back of the net sealing the Lady Bruins 3-0 win.
The Lady Bruins, now sitting on top of the 3A/2A/1A-SD4 Special District 4 division with a record of 8-0 will face off at home Thursday afternoon at 2:00pm against the Lady Bulldogs of Sutherlin who the Bruins defeated 1-0 in their last meeting.
