Klondike Fire Grows 5,374 Acres

Firefighters continued to see light winds and dry conditions over the now 172,797 acre Klondike Fire. Temperatures are expected to continue to be warm with highs in the 70s with ridge and mid-slope humidity in the teens.

Due to the fire behavior and suppression efforts, evacuation levels were reduced Wednesday afternoon By Curry County Sheriff John Ward for locations on the North side of the 33 Road (Agness Road) from Spud Road to Coon Rock Bridge from Level 3 (GO) to Level 2 (BE SET).

This change only affects the Residences and Businesses on the North side of the 33 Road (Agness Road) including Agness RV Park and Cougar Lane Lodge. All other Areas remain the same.

Fire officials are expecting to continue to see warm, dry weather with light easterly winds and dry conditions. Overnight Friday into Saturday could see an increase in easterly winds at the ridges gusting to 15 mph ahead of a front that will approach the area beginning Sunday. Sunday and Monday will see a change as winds change to the south, which will bring the marine layer into the coastal area but remain dry aloft.

There is still a great deal of fire suppression efforts and structure preparedness going on with teams from the Fire Incident Management, CFPA, State Fire Marshal and local fire agencies. The Curry County Sheriff’s Office will continue to provide patrol in the closed areas.
