High school sports programs are now well into their Spring sports programs and another outstanding Brookings-Harbor High School student athlete has been chosen Barron’s ‘Star Student Athlete’. Student athletes are selected by their coach’s for their outstanding efforts in the sports arena, as well as their exemplary scholastic and community participation.
This weeks selection is senior #12, Kallen Christensen, a 4 year member of the Bruins varsity baseball team, chosen by head coach Keith Wallin for his leadership, consistency and work ethic for the Bruins so far this season.
As a three sport varsity athlete competing in coach Bavaro’s Bruin Football Program as well as head coach Brandon Hodges Basketball team, and now participating in coach Keith Wallin’s Baseball program, this weeks selection is a great example, excelling in all aspects of the ‘Star Student Athlete’ program showing leadership, competitiveness, and work ethic while balancing a 3.80 GPA.
So far this season, Kallen has accumulated 16 hits, 12 RBI and has crossed the plate 8 times early in this Bruin season. Defensively Kallen has played all but 3 positions on the field for coach Wallin, while committing only 1 error.
Scholastically Kallen has balanced his athletic participation carrying a 3.80 GPA in courses such as Medical Terminology, Body Science, Business Math, English IV, American Government and Civics as well as an Internship in Athletic Department is designed to prepare him for a career as an orthodontist. “After high school I intend to go on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints before I attend Snow College and Weber State moving on to dental and specialists schools to become an orthodontist.” Kallen told the Compass.
“Kallen is a leader both on and off the field.” coach Wallin said. “His work ethic and drive is second to none, and we are truly lucky to have him these last 4 years.”
