K-9 Officer “Trapper” takes 5 Pounds of Meth Off the Streets

The Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team conducted a surveillance operation that ultimately ended with the arrest of 43-year-old Walter Maureceo-Hernandez of Salem, Oregon on numerous high-level drug charges.

Maureceo-Hernandez had traveled to Oregon from California on a bus line and was dropped off in Roseburg. I-5 is a major drug trafficking corridor, and bus lines are just one of the many methods of drug traffickers use to transport their contraband.

After being dropped off, Maureceo-Hernandez entered another vehicle and Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team detectives conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in Roseburg, at approximately 2:00 pm. Roseburg Police Department’s drug detection K-9 “Trapper” was applied to the vehicle and he alerted, indicating the odor of contraband was coming from inside the vehicle.

Detectives searched the vehicle and found a backpack in the trunk belonging to Maureceo-Hernandez. The backpack contained a large number of narcotics to include almost 5 pounds of methamphetamine and over 1 pound of heroin.

Maureceo-Hernandez was lodged in the Douglas County Jail on charges of Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Possession of Heroin, and Unlawful Delivery of Heroin. Maureceo-Hernandez was also found to have several warrants out for his arrest out of Marion County, Oregon for “Dangerous Drugs” and other drug-related crimes.
