Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested the driver of a car that crashed and rolled early Thursday morning north of Rogue River. Two bystanders were able to pull the driver and twe injured passenger from the vehicle before it caught fire.
Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle, a white 2017 Ford Focus with Ohio plates, traveling north at a high rate of speed through the curve. The driver lost control, causing the vehicle to crash into a ditch and roll over.
Two bystanders helped the driver, Eric James Bruner, 36, and a female passenger, 32, from the vehicle before it caught fire. Both vehicle occupants live in the 13500-block of East Evans Creek Road.
Deputies say Bruner displayed visible signs of impairment. They arrested Bruner for driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUII-alcohol).
Evans Valley Fire and Rogue River Fire personnel extinguished the blaze. Rogue River Fire medics transported the 32-year-old female passenger to Three Rivers Community Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Bruner was examined at Providence Medford Medical Center before lodging at the William H. Moore Center. Deputies cited Bruner for assault in the third degree, DUII, refusing a breath test, and reckless driving. The case will be forwarded to the district attorney’s office for prosecution.
