On Thursday evening, November 19th, just after 6:00pm, Oregon State Police, Josephine County Sheriff Deputies, Rural Metro Fire and other emergency personnel responded to reports that a person had been shot on Hwy. 199 near Wonder.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a Chevrolet van had been reported as driving erratically and was believed to be an intoxicated driver.

As emergency personnel was en route, the van stopped alongside the road and citizens attempted to detain the operator of the van until police arrived. The van attempted to leave and struck 32-year-old Harley Tyrie of Grants Pass and 31-year-old Brandy Newell of Grants Pass.
32-year-old Harley Tyrie drew a firearm and fired into the van occupied by the van operator, Tyrie and Newell were not seriously injured.
The operator of the van, 31-year-old Bryan Fitzgerald of Rogue River, was struck with a bullet according to the Oregon State Police. He was transported to Rogue Regional Medical Center for treatment. His medical BAC was .30%
Oregon State Police Detectives are working with the Josephine County District Attorney’s Office and the investigation is continuing.
