High Winds Pound the Area Friday Morning

A frontal system pushed through the area Friday morning knocking trees and power lines over had been reported down with power outages. Not only did the winds disrupt power, but many people also lost cell phone service for many hours Friday.

Reports of very strong winds (50-70 mph) were received as the system moved through Coos and Curry Counties as the front moved onshore.

Gusts to 85 mph were reported at 101 and Humbug Canyon south of Port Orford as well as gusts to 79 mph at Port Orford. Travelers reported multiple trees down all along coastal areas on Highway 101.
