On Friday, February 22nd, just after 9:30 am, a man led multiple law enforcement agencies on a high-speed chase that spanned from Brookings to Thomas Creek and then back through Brookings and Harbor eventually ending just before the Dr. Fine bridge at the intersection of Hwy. 101 and Hwy. 197 in California.
The Crescent City man, later identified as 39 year old Reynold Ford McLaren, was confronted Friday morning in a Brookings neighborhood by Brookings Police officers and fled northbound on Hwy. 101.
According to authorities, the driver exited Hwy. 101 and entered the Whaleshead community. After Mclaren exited the community and re-entered southbound Hwy. 101, Brookings police officers had deployed a spike strip just outside the Brookings city limits which Mclaren hit and damaged his drivers side tire, flattening it.
The pursuit continued through Harbor eventually crossing the Oregon-California border with Mclaren now traveling with a flat left front tire at high speeds, he then struck another set of spike strips placed by California Highway Patrol and eventually lost control of his white Chevrolet pickup and struck a power pole, ending the pursuit.
According to the CHP, Mclaren was then arrested without further incident and processed into the Del Norte County jail on charges of felony evasion, and DUI with alcohol and drugs.
